Day 1
Wow, it's been a long time since I last posted, hasn't it? I sincerely appoligize to all the peoples who dilligently follow by blog and wait with baited breath for the next post; I'll try not to let it happen again.
ATTENTION READERS: Jonathan is very tired at the moment (so much so, I just spelled my name wrong and had to correct it) so try and take everything (including spelling and grammar) with a grain of salt, a slice of lemon, and a shot of tequila.
Today was day one of The United States National Dancesport Championships. It was a CRAZY day! I got up at about 7:00 and got ready, went over to the Marriott Center and got my number, and danced Silver American Swing (Triple Step swing, incase you're wondering). Dancing in tne Marriott Center is really nerve-racking the first time you do it, but it was incredible how focused you become on the dance and don't even realize what's going on around you (just watch for arms and legs of other couples, though). At any rate, my partner and I survived 3 cuts and were called back for the qurter finals tonight. We were cut at that point, but oh well. My goal was to go at least two rounds and my partner's was to go at least 3, so both of our goals were fulfilled-- at any rate, i can take comfort in the fact that we were better than the people who went to the finals :)
All told, I spent about 8 hours at Dancesport today. My mind is reeling with sambas and tangoes and vaguely european classical music. towards the end of the day, it all started to blend together into one loud swirl of sparkly-clothed people and sound. One of the highlights, however, was during the high school matchup when the mascots (YES, they brought mascots and cheerleaders and half of their student populations!) got into a fight. For some reason, the Timp View Timberwolf got offended when the Alta Hawk flipped its tail up at it and so it kicked the Hawk and the two got into a bit of a sprawl. The (insert school name here) Viking tried to intervene, but it was the Orem Tiger that finally broke things up. Crazy, huh?
Well, Jonathan's gotta sleep now, becuase he's talking in third person. Tommorrow I get to get up and do it all over again, this time with Samba!
I'll post tommorrow and let ya know how it went.
